What I Learned
I learned that working in a startup environment can be challenging and you can "wear many hats" which can be rewarding. Moreover, even if the business fails you can learn more.
About the Company
Equipit helps you maintain a digital inventory of the things you own or recommend. You get to share your inventory online with your friends and followers, and earn rewards when they buy what you have.
About the Internship
Assist in turning their web based platform into easy-to-use experience for their users. Discover through research (usability testing) why/where they were losing possible users (bouncing). Implement solutions to their problem using universal principles of design and user interface elements.
Research
I did preliminary research by mapping out their onboarding process with a task flow diagram. I also did a competitive analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of companies that the founder suggested. In addition, I created 3 personas on their users

Testing
I did a small sample of user testing (approx. 5) and focused on the onboarding process because my hypothesis was that this area was where they lost most potential users. The testing results proved my assumptions to be right.
Prototypes
Working very closely with the Front-End Developer I tried to streamline their onboarding process. I did this by creating wireframes that went through many iterations. We ended up settling on a step by step process to guide users through the process. In addition, giving the user the option to view an instructional video.
